An essay is, generally, a piece of writing that gives the author's own arguments, but the definition is vague, overlapping with those of a letter, a paper, an article and a short story. Essays have been sub-classified as formal and informal: formal essays are characterized by "serious purpose, dignity, logical organization, length," whereas the informal essay is characterized by "the personal element (self-revelation, individual tastes and experiences, confidential manner), humor, graceful style, rambling structure, unconventionality or novelty of theme," etc.
There are many different types of essay, but they are often classified in 4 types given as - argumentative, expository, narrative, and descriptive essays.

The increase in the status of women and their rights in the society is called women empowerment. It is not right to talk about inclusive development by marginalizing half the population of the country. Keeping this in mind, many efforts were made for the empowerment of women.
Taking initiative in this direction, the Government of India is running schemes like reservation of one-third seats for women in local bodies, exemption in taxation and creation of immovable properties, help by self-help groups and financial assistance through stand-up scheme etc.
Gradually, the positive results of the above efforts are also visible and women have done commendable work in various fields.
In the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics 2021, out of the total 7 medals won by India, 3 were won by PV Sindhu (Badminton), Mirabai Chanu (Weightlifting) and Lovlina Borgohain (Boxing) i.e. Women. For the first time, women pilots have joined the Indian Air Force. First, Nirmala Sitharaman became the Defense Minister and currently she is the Finance Minister of India. Recently, Manushi Chhillar from a state with low sex ratio like Haryana has won the title of Miss World. Women of Indian origin – Kalpana Chawla and Sirisha Bandla have also gone to space.
Thus, we see that in almost all spheres, women have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with men.
But, in spite of the above, still a large section of women have not got adequate opportunities and in some areas they are victims of discrimination. For example, the doors of Parliament are still looking forward to adequate representation of women.
Therefore, along with all of us, it is the responsibility of the government to make serious efforts to end this inequality so that women can also serve the country with their full potential.

इसी दिशा में पहल करते हुए भारत सरकार द्वारा स्थानीय निकायों में महिलाओं हेतु एक तिहाई सीटों का आरक्षण, महिलाओं को करारोपण एवं अचल संपत्तियों के सृजन में छूट, स्वयं सहायता समूहों द्वारा मदद तथा स्टैंड अप योजना द्वारा वित्तीय सहायता इत्यादि योजनाएं चलाई जा रही हैं।
धीरे-धीरे उपर्युक्त प्रयासों के सकारात्मक परिणाम भी दिखने लगे हैं तथा महिलाओं ने विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में सराहनीय कार्य किए हैं।
हाल ही में संपन्न हुए टोक्यो ओलंपिक 2021 में, भारत द्वारा जीते गए कुल 7 पदकों में से 3 पदक पीवी सिंधु (बैडमिंटन), मीराबाई चानू (भारोत्तोलन) तथा लवलीना बोरगोहेन (मुक्केबाजी) अर्थात महिलाओं ने जीते। भारतीय वायु सेना में पहली बार महिला पायलट शामिल हुईं हैं। पहले, निर्मला सीतारमण रक्षा मंत्री बनी एवं वर्तमान में वे भारत की वित्त मंत्री हैं। हाल ही में, हरियाणा जैसे निम्न लिंगानुपात वाले राज्य की मानुषी छिल्लर ने मिस वर्ल्ड का खिताब जीता है। भारतीय मूल की महिलाएं- कल्पना चावला एवं सिरीशा बांदला अंतरिक्ष में भी जा चुकी हैं।
इस प्रकार, हम देखते हैं कि लगभग सभी क्षेत्रों में, महिलाएं पुरुषों के साथ कंधे-से-कंधा मिलाकर खड़ी हुई हैं।
परंतु, उपर्युक्त के बावजूद अभी भी महिलाओं के एक बड़े वर्ग को पर्याप्त अवसर नहीं मिल सके हैं तथा कुछ क्षेत्रों में वे भेदभाव की शिकार हैं। जैसे - संसद के दरवाजे आज भी महिलाओं के पर्याप्त प्रतिनिधित्व की राह देख रहे हैं।
